Character Introduced: Hikaru - Sai - Akari - Shusaku - Heihachi - Shirakawa
The story began with Shindo Hikaru, digging stuff to sell, out of his grandfather house. He needed some money since his allowance was cut off after scoring 8 out of his History test. ^^;; And so Hikaru found an ancient Go board and noticed a blood-stain on it, where as Fujisaki Akari that came along with him cannot see. Soon, Hikaru heard voices and fainted as he was possessed by a ghost.
The next day, while having another history test, Hikaru talked to the ghost who resided in him. The ghost was called Fujiwara Sai. He used to be the Emperor Go teacher in Heian Period. One day, the other Go tutor demanded a match between Sai and him. The winner was the only one that stays. However, as the match began, Sai was accused for cheating, while it was actually his opponent who cheated. As a result, Sai was not able to concentrate and lost the match. He was driven away and since then no one wanted to hire him as Go tutor. Two days later, Sai drowned himself in despair.
However, Sai's spirit was not able to rest as he still want to play more Go. Hundreds of years later, he came to possess Honinbo Shusaku, the only child who was able to see Sai's tears on the Go board. Shusaku willingly let Sai play Go, but it was not for long as Shusaku died of illness at the age of 34. But Sai still want to play Go as he was yet to achieve the perfection in Go. (or moves of god ^^) Unfortunately, Hikaru was not interested in Go at all. Hearing it, Sai was in "extreme" sorrow that caused Hikaru to throw up very badly. Unwillingly, Hikaru agreed to let Sai play Go.
Hikaru began by playing against his grandfather, who claimed himself a Go expert. Sai was very very happy as he was finally able to play Go again, but the match was ruined as Hikaru knows nothing about Go. Back at home, Sai helped Hikaru with his history quiz. In exchange, Hikaru decided to go to Go class to learn the basic Go skill. Of course, Hikaru was half asleep during the Go lesson. Meanwhile Akari was in a big shock knowing that Hikaru was attending Go lesson ^^;;
The chapter ended as a student in the Go class asked the instructor, Shirakawa, "Who was the strongest Go-player in the history?". Shirakawa sensei's answer was "Honinbo Shusaku". Um, too bad, Hikaru didn't hear that ^^
