Harrison County West Virginia
PFC Robert W. Grady
169 Infantry 43D U.S. Army
Entered the service at Clarksburg, W.Va.,
Killed April 8, 1945 in Luzon, Philippines.
He was born and raised in Clarksburg, W.VA. His parents were William L. & Magaret Grady.
He was employed at the Workingmans Clothing Store when he received his draft notice
to serve our country. At that time he was a volunteer in the WVA State Guard.
He moved his wife, Mary Louise Aills, back to Portsmouth, Ohio, so she would be
close to her family in case he did not return. Bob & Mary Louise had one daughter,
Roberta Louise. While he was home on leave, after basic training, he was able to
see his daughther, who was 3 months old. This is the only time he ever saw her.
When he left for overseas, he was never to see his family again. While guarding a
bridge from the Japanese, a hand grenade hit his fox hole killing him instantly on
April 8, 1945. His body was returned to Portsmouth, Ohio, October 1948, where he
was laid to rest at Memorial Burial Park.
Remembered by his daughter, Roberta Grady Cook.
