William Howard Hymes

February 15, 1922 - October 7, 1997
William Howard Hymes was born on February 15, 1922 in Harrison County, West Virginia the son of James Russell and Oma I. Richards Hymes. He grew up in Harrison County and was inducted into the US Army on November 22, 1939. His first tour was in Panama and then returned to the United States. After a tour in the States he was transferred to the European campaign where he served the remainder of the war in battles throughout Northern France and the Rhineland. He served in the Communications MOS and preformed duties as a Telephone Operator. William (Billy) earned the Good Conduct, American Defense Service, American Theater Service, and European African Middle Eastern Service Medals and Ribbons. After WW II he returned to his hometown of Clarksburg, WV where he remained until 1955 when he moved to Cleveland, OH. He entered into training and became an Electrician. He worked in this field until 1976 when he suffered a debilitating injury and was disabled. Billy married Esther M. Martin of Smithfield, West Virginia. He and Esther had one daughter, Nancy L. Hymes. William H. Hymes passed away on October 7, 1997 in Medina, OH and is buried in Hillcrest Memorial Ganders, Wadsworth, OH. He was buried with full Military Honors.
