Donald turned eighteen in August of 1943 and he was inducted on October 23, 1943 and entered the U S Army at Ft. Hayes, Ohio. He left for Europe on July 11, 1944 and arrived in England on July 22, 1944. Donald was assigned to the famous Third Armored Division . He was awarded the purple heart for wounds.
