Kali - GM Aelshide

Karen Marie Hillyer

08/23/60 - 08/03/03

Karen passed away Sunday, August 3rd, 2003, at
Cedars-Sinai, after a lengthy illness.

She is survived by her mother, Connie, sister Ginny, two brothers, Robert and David, and two nieces, Jessica and Danielle.

Some of you will know Karen from GemStone (Kali/GM-Aelshide), some will know her from Barney's Beanery, others still will have worked with her at eUniverse, We will all remember her with equal fondness.

Instead of flowers, donations can be made in Karen's name to the The Ayn Rand Institute, as Karen was a big fan of her writings and philosophies.

I pretty much grew up in GS. Karen (as Aelsidhe) was almost like that big sister that looks out for you and makes sure everything works out in the end. Truly one of the people id consider family.

Seth

Kali was one of a kind. I met her many years ago in Gemstone, when I was playing a young warrior with a thick accent...and she took me under wing. She was the first to really notice my character, and she really treated me like I was special.

Denise

Hers was a personality with enough character Ill remember her for decades. And whenever I read a book she recommended to me.

Juspera

Karen was a very special person and was able to touch so many people through her wit, enthusiasm, patience and caring. We are all lesser people for having lost her. I wish her family only the best and most comforting thoughts. She will be sorely missed.

Jim

Rarely in life do you find someone who defies definition. When you do find such a unique person, you are truly blessed to call them Friend. Karen, you changed my life forever. I will love and miss you always.

Sagan

Karen was one of the most entertaining, intelligent, and unique individuals Ive ever known. She helped me in more ways than I can count. Shell always be missed.

Danay

Where to start with Karen... she was a good friend before I was a GameMaster, and then she was my mentor when I was hired. She was my rock, my sounding board, my listening ear -- part of my support. I thank her for letting me learn from her, and hold her and hold her knowledge tight to my heart. The Queen of QC, Ill miss you, and miss our voices shouting No in tandem on the back channel with someone asks if they can make something verboten. And Ill always remember that U2s Bono kissed you.

Marsha/Andraste

Well miss Karen greatly. The MANY memories of Kali from Gemstone will always be with me and others. She will always be in our hearts.

Greg/Jesh

I have never in my life met someone more intelligent, witty, well-read, or with such a priceless sense of humor. Karen will always, always have a special place in my heart. I know many of you dont know much about GemStone, but it was something she truly loved. We are making her a beautiful memorial in a special new area in the game. I am also writing a small, sentimental script and placing it in her favorite spot in the game. My sincere condolences for all who knew her. My sincere condolences for all who knew her. We will all miss Karen. She was one in a million.

Greg/Elbrion

We wanted to express our deepest sympathies to you, and to let you know that Karen was a warm and wonderful person and was loved by many. She will remain in the hearts of all that knew her. She was the kindest person we have ever met in Gemstone.

Nancy/Gremlynn

Karen was an inspiration to all that knew her. A walking Thesarus, dictionary, medieval clothes design, room design, and just an all around great fountain of information. I will miss her terribly for the rest of my life... (a copy from Celtic's Workshop--->) I remember the first day I met her character, we took a shining to one another and our friendship blossomed. We laughed our heads off when she found some cherry balls under the christmas tree in 1994. She gave them to my character and he was able to do extrodinary things with them. We laughed so hard it hurt. Another memory was when I bought a weapon from Guillaume back in '93. This was a RARE weapon. 5x enchanted ora broadsword. I paid 110,000 silvers for it then, which was like 100 million today. I died (we had droppage back then) and Kali ran as fast as she could to save me. I told her forget me!! SAVE THE SWORD!. The memories go on and on, the laughter now rings in my head. We all love you very much, Karen. May you rest in peace. You're in God's hands now. He'll watch over you.

Alan/Celtic

I had heard so much about her when i first joined Gemstone. How well liked she was, how witty, intelligent and just an all out personality plus. They were right. She had such a strong aura about her (I can imagine if i had met her in person). I met her first as Kali about 7 or so years ago. She disappeared (as Kali) and like many of the "elders" do, she returned one day and she was passing out the talismans she'd made. I still have it! I can't say I knew her well but It was an honor meeting her in the lands as both Kali and Aelshide.

Laura/Jypsie
